Barcelona is in the top 10 most visited cities in Europe. Its summer vibe, with its Mediterranean waterfront, narrow streets and wide squares make the city a real tourist magnet.
You could spend 2 weeks in Barcelona and still have things to see. But if you have less time, here are some of the best sights and where you should start.
La Sagrada Famiglia
The Sagrada Familia is a symbol of Barcelona and one of the most famous churches in the world. Construction began in 1882 and is still unfinished. Gaudí, the principal architect, dedicated the last decades of his life to the project. His unique style combines Gothic with natural elements and curved forms. Every detail of the church has a deeply religious significance. Its imposing towers are visible from almost every corner of the city.
The Sagrada Familia is an impressive place, both inside and out. Today, it continues to be an active construction site. It is an architectural masterpiece, attracting millions of visitors every year. To visit inside, you need to buy a ticket at least a month in advance.
Arch of Triumph
Barcelona’s Arc de Triomf, located at the end of Passeig de Lluís Companys, is an impressive monument in the neo-Moorish style, built in 1888 as the main gateway to the Universal Exhibition of that year.
Made of red brick and decorated with elaborate sculptural details, the arch symbolizes Barcelona’s progress and openness to the world. It’s an ideal place to start your visit to the city, as it leads directly to Ciutadella Park and other major attractions in the center of Barcelona.
Parc de la Ciutadella
Parc de la Ciutadella is one of Barcelona’s most beautiful and popular parks, an ideal place for relaxation and recreation. Created on the site of a former military fortress, the park is home to a number of special attractions, including a lake where you can hire rowing boats, a monumental fountain designed by Josep Fontsère with the help of the young Antoni Gaudí, and a zoo. French train station

La Boqueria Market
La Boqueria Market is one of Barcelona’s most popular markets, located on La Rambla. Here you can find an impressive variety of local and international produce, from fresh fruit and vegetables to cheeses, cured meats and fish. It’s the ideal place to enjoy authentic flavors and traditional Catalan dishes.
If you’re a food lover, you can buy quality products such as olive oil, spices or traditional sweets, and at some stalls you can even stop for a quick snack prepared on the spot.
Catalunya Square
Plaça Catalunya is the vibrant heart of Barcelona and a major transportation hub of the city. The university’s historic buildings, such as the former convent of Sant Pau del Camp, reflect a blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles, and the interior courtyards are peaceful oases, ideal for relaxing after a day exploring the city.
Guided tours of the campus will allow you to discover hidden details, such as the frescoes and sculptures in the old halls, as well as enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the university, which is home to students from all over the world. Casa Batlló

Casa Milà
Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera, is one of architect Antoni Gaudí’s most famous works. Built between 1906 and 1912, the building is a unique example of modernist architecture. Its undulating, curved facade, without a straight corner, imitates the natural shapes of the cliffs and the waves of the sea.
The balconies and hardware are inspired by natural elements, creating an organic and fluid look. The interior of the house is equally impressive, with an innovative design that includes interior courtyards and ingenious solutions to maximize natural light. Casa Milà is an impressive landmark in Barcelona and well worth a visit inside. Again, get your tickets early.
The ticket includes access with audio guide and skip the line, so you don’t have to wait in line. Plus, you get access to the rooftop, where a breathtaking panoramic view opens up.
Macaya Palace
Macaya Palace is an outstanding example of modernist architecture, located on Passeig de Sant Joan in Barcelona. Built between 1898 and 1901, the building was designed by the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, one of the most important representatives of the Catalan Modernist style. Its imposing façade, with intricate ornamental details and wrought-iron elements, reflects the architectural influences of the period.
The palace is known for its unique combination of curved forms, floral motifs and symmetry, which give it an elegant and sophisticated appearance. Over the decades, the building has been used for various purposes, and is now home to the Macaya Bank Foundation, which promotes cultural and educational projects. It’s a great place to put on your Barcelona sightseeing bucket list.
Modernist Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau
Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau is an impressive complex located in Barcelona, built between 1901 and 1930 by architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. It was originally a hospital, but today houses various cultural institutions and is an important place for visitors. Its buildings are an outstanding example of modernist architecture, with ornamental details and colorful stained-glass windows.
The interior courtyards and gardens are ideal for relaxing and admiring the beauty of the complex. The Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers guests a glimpse of Barcelona’s architectural evolution.

Here’s what we liked best:
Guell Park
Park Guell is a fascinating place in Barcelona, created by architect Antoni Gaudí. It was built between 1900 and 1914 and is a unique example of modernist architecture. The park offers a stunning combination of organic shapes, colorful mosaics and natural landscapes.
You can admire spectacular views of the city from the hill on which the park stands. One of the famous snake-shaped, mosaic-covered bench is one of the famous sights. Guell Park is a perfect place for relaxing walks and memorable photos. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Entry is by ticket, which must be purchased in advance as tickets are never available for the same day.
Travel Tip – It’s best to get your ticket with a guided tour included, as many of the details are hard to understand if you walk around on your own. Gaudi used a lot of symbolism and it’s a shame to walk around and not understand much. And the price difference is just 4 euros.
Tibi Dabo
Tibi Dabo is a gorgeous spot in Barcelona, which you can reach by funicular. From there, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views over the city and the Mediterranean Sea. Here you can visit Mount Tibi Dabo, a popular spot for hiking and relaxing. A park and a temple dedicated to St. Isidore, the patron saint of farmers, are located on the summit. It’s a peaceful spot, perfect for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can also explore various walking trails, which offer a unique perspective of Barcelona.
A church, known as the Tibi Dabo Church (Iglesia del Tibidabo), is also located on the top of Tibi Dabo. It was built between 1902 and 1961 and offers a spectacular view over Barcelona. We walked up here as the funicular was not running that day. It was about an hour to the top.
Montjuïc
Montjuïc is an imposing hill in the southwest of Barcelona with spectacular views of the city and the sea. It’s home to Montjuïc Castle, a 17th-century fortress that played an important role in the city’s history as both a place of defense and a prison. You can reach the top of the mountain by the Montjuïc cable car, which offers stunning views on the way to the castle.
Inside the fortress, you can explore its museums, art galleries and various exhibitions illustrating Barcelona’s military history. Also surrounding the castle are gardens and green grounds ideal for a relaxing stroll. We spent a whole afternoon here. We took the cable car up and walked down. The walk through the park was very pleasant.

Olympic Ring
Barcelona’s Olympic Ring (or Olympic Ring) is an iconic area on Montjuïc, which was the main site of the 1992 Olympic Games. It includes several buildings and facilities built especially for the event and is now a tourist attraction. At the heart of the area is the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, used for athletics competitions and the opening ceremony of the Games.
Nearby, you can also find the Palau Sant Jordi, a multipurpose hall designed for sporting and cultural events. The Olympic Ring is also known for the Torre Calatrava, a futuristic tower that serves as a symbol of the 1992 Games.
Arenas de Barcelona – Corida transformed into a shopping mall
The Arenas de Barcelona is a former bullfighting arena, now transformed into a modern shopping mall with shops, restaurants and cafés. Here, you can go up to the panoramic terrace, which offers great views over the city.
Access to the terrace is either via the stairs inside the building or the exterior elevator, which costs just €2 per person. It’s a popular destination that combines tradition with modernity, making it a perfect place for shopping or simply relaxing and enjoying Barcelona’s cityscape.
Glòries Tower
The Torre Glòries (also known as Torre Agbar) is a modern skyscraper, emblematic of Barcelona’s cityscape. At 144 meters high, the building has a unique shape inspired by a fountain or bullet, and its facade is covered with glass panels that light up spectacularly at night.
Although the Torre Glòries is a symbol of the city, you can’t climb to the top, as it’s an office space. Nonetheless, its impressive structure remains a tourist attraction, and its futuristic architecture makes it a building not to be missed.
Where to eat well in Barcelona – Restaurants we recommend
It’s impossible to walk around Barcelona and not be intoxicated by the smell of seafood pasta, a tasty paella or a flambéed chorizo.
There are plenty of good restaurants in Barcelona worth stopping for lunch or dinner.
Here are 2 recommendations of places we particularly liked:
Makamaka Burgeria
At Makamaka we had the best burgers in Barcelona. The location is right on Barceloneta, the famous seafront promenade. The burgers are delicious and juicy. And the parmesan fries are the perfect accompaniment. There’s a wide variety of burgers to suit all tastes. The price of a burger with fries is around €15. Because we liked the location and their food so much, we’ve been back here several times. Well worth a try.

Reunion Restaurant
We recommend this restaurant for a break after visiting Park Guell. It is located near the park and is a great option for lunch. Here we chose the menu of the day, which consists of two courses, dessert and coffee for 15 euro/person. If you’re in the area, it’s worth stopping here for lunch.
